JERSEY BLUES
JERSEY BLUES is a photographic series using the cyanotype printing process, a photographic printing process that creates a cyan-blue image using light sensitive iron salts and exposure to UV light.
When we think of the ocean, we might conjure up imagery of the Summer; crowded beaches, busy boardwalks and long days of sunshine. Yet, mere months after the transition into Fall, those same beaches are left vacant and undisturbed, prone to Mother Nature and the elements.
I moved to New Jersey in October, 2018 and quickly grew to be enveloped by the loneliness and emptiness of these quiet, desolate beach destinations in Winter. Simultaneously, I was embarking on a new path in my life, peppered with moments of self-introspection and isolation. Somehow, I felt a parallel between these subjects I was visiting and my own self.
My goal for these cyanotypes is to evoke unspoken themes of disconnect and loneliness, to capture an atmosphere and to explore the narrative just beyond the edge of the image by showcasing landscape, self portraiture and small moments linking the two together.
